    Frequently Asked Questions

    1What is expected of me?
The London Governess invites qualified childcare professionals to join our growing team, including governesses, nannies, maternity nurses, tutors, teacher companions, and male nannies. We seek individuals with excellent qualifications, at least five years of experience in childcare, and the ability to adapt to client requirements. If you're smart, discreet, and professional, we'd love to hear from you. Please note that an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) certification is required, and you should be willing to obtain it. In return, we offer the chance to work for prestigious families across the globe, with competitive pay and many employee benefits.
    2What is a DBS check?
DBS stands for Disclosure and Barring Service, a mandatory check for those working with children. It includes: Children’s Barred List Check: Confirms if the candidate is listed on a register preventing them from working with children. Police Check: Ensures no information makes the candidate unsuitable for working with children. This includes criminal convictions or cautions, even those considered "spent" under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All our candidates must undergo this check.
3Do I need a first aid certificate to become a registered candidate?
Candidates applying as governesses or nannies must have a valid first aid certificate. Our clients have high expectations regarding their children’s safety, and 99% of clients request their childcare provider to be certified in first aid. If your certificate has expired, please refresh your training to avoid losing a great job proposal.
4How many years of experience in childcare do you require?
We require all our candidates to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in childcare. Favourable references from previous employers are also a huge plus.
5What’s the age limit for your candidates?
All candidates should be 21 years or older, given they have the required experience and qualifications. There is no upper age limit as long as you’re able to perform up to standard and meet client expectations.
6Who pays for international travel and accommodation?
The employer is responsible for covering all your expenses. Before you start the position, your employer will inform you of all the terms and conditions, and you’ll be able to negotiate the details. Regarding live-in positions, all candidates are provided with a comfortable and safe place to stay.
7Do I need to sign up for your courses?
Since we only have a select number of vacancies in the UK and abroad, keep in mind that our clients often prioritise candidates who have attended our training courses. However, this is not an official requirement.
